Agricultural technical standards and assistance

Technical standards

Conservation practices used to meet the agricultural performance standards and prohibitions must be designed and installed according to accepted technical standards. Examples of conservation practices that could be used include manure storage structures, vegetated buffer strips, or nutrient management plans. Technical standards used in Wisconsin are maintained by the USDA–Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in the Electronic Field Office Technical Guide (eFOTG). [exit DNR]

Technical assistance

There are many organizations available to provide technical assistance to landowners for planning, design, and installation of conservation practices. County land conservation offices [exit DNR], USDA–Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) [exit DNR] and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) [exit DNR] are primarily governmental organizations that provide assistance with landowners. Private consultants may also have technical expertise regarding conservation practices for landowners. Non-profit organizations may also be available to provide assistance.
