Rib Mountain State Park Master Plan Amendment

A master plan amendment review process for Rib Mountain State Park is underway. The park is located in Marathon County, adjacent to the City of Wausau. With just over 1,600 acres, the park is one of the highest points in Wisconsin with significant wooded acres containing major vistas and rock outcroppings. Recreation activities include hiking, sightseeing and picnicking. In addition, the Granite Peak Ski Area leases 385 acres of park lands that provides alpine skiing and snowboarding opportunities.

A master plan for Rib Mountain State Park was completed in 2005. In February 2015, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board authorized the department to undertake a master plan amendment process at Rib Mountain State Park for the purpose of evaluating an expansion for the Granite Peak Ski Area.

As the amendment process progresses, updates will be available with each major step in the planning process. Please check back periodically. Thank you for your interest in this master plan.
