Kinnickinic River Fisheries Area – Oscar Lee Tract

Kinnickinic River Fisheries Area – Oscar Lee Tract

The KRFA-Oscar Lee Tract is an 86-acre property located in southern St. Croix County. The property was purchased in 1986 as a part of the Kinnickinic River Fisheries Area. The property consists of grassland and riverine floodplain habitat with the Kinnickinic River, a world class trout stream, bisecting the property. The property is managed as part of the Western Prairie Habitat Restoration Area, a landscape scale wetland and grassland restoration project.

The property is located 2.5 miles northeast of River Falls. From the intersection of Highway 65 and Quarry Road in River Falls, follow Quarry Road east for 1.5 miles, then turn east onto River Drive. The property is located on the west side of River Drive.

Management

The property is managed to provide opportunities for public hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife observation and other nature-based outdoor recreation. Management objectives aim to maintain an open grassland community through prescribed fire, mechanical and chemical control of woody species and limited haying and grazing. Populations of invasive species are controlled or eliminated by cutting, pulling, burning, herbicide treatment and/or biocontrol.
