Tribal night hunting in Wisconsin

Wisconsin's Lake Superior Chippewa Indians may now conduct night hunting for deer on lands open to public hunting within the Ceded Territory.

For 2016, tribal night hunting will run from Nov. 1, 2016 to Jan. 2, 2017 - however, the season will be closed during Wisconsin's nine-day gun deer hunt (November 19-27).

The department will work at all levels to protect public safety and continue sound management of this shared resource. DNR law enforcement officers will work cooperatively with Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission wardens to ensure compliance with night hunting regulations, land managers will work closely with property owners in the Ceded Territory and wildlife staff will work with tribal experts to monitor deer harvest.

Private landowners enrolled in the Managed Forest Law (open) and Forest Crop Law programs who have questions can contact their local DNR forester.

Additional questions regarding night hunting regulations can be directed to the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission website [exit DNR] or via phone at 715-682-6619.
