Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Tier 2 applicant

Under the jurisdiction of the US Forest Service, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) covers over 1.5 million acres of northern Wisconsin within Ashland, Bayfield, Florence, Forest, Langlade, Oconto, Oneida, Price, Sawyer, Taylor and Vilas counties.

About the applicant

National Forest staff carefully design various construction projects within the forest, such as road and trail stream crossings, to avoid environmental impact. In addition, their environmental management system, determined to be functionally equivalent to the ISO 14000 standard, ensures proper monitoring practices. Their goals for a Tier 2 participation contract include improved cooperation with DNR on water permitting issues related to the replacement of roads, trails, stream crossings, dams, and other construction projects.
