Northern Highland American Legion State ForestInterpretive program

NHAL Crystal Lake Nature Center
NHAL Crystal Lake Nature Center

The Northern Highland American Legion (NHAL) State Forest has an outstanding nature center at the Crystal Lake Campground picnic area that includes a variety of educational displays and activities for the entire family. Within the NHAL, there are also five interpretive trails for those who would like to take a self-guided tour of the forest landscape. The trails traverse varied terrain and expose visitors to a wide range of natural habitats.

Summer naturalist programming on the NHAL has been reduced due to limitations of the state budget. Nature programs at the Crystal Lake Nature Center will be limited to a few, as announced, events during the camping season.

Volunteer hosts will be on duty daily in the nature center to share information about local interpretive and educational opportunities with visitors.

An exhibit of Northwoods nature-based education, summer program and events calendars, brochures and information will be available to share with campers and visitors throughout the summer.
