Natural Heritage InventoryTools for accessing data

The Natural Heritage Inventory database is the most comprehensive source of rare species data for Wisconsin. These data are used for a variety of purposes including research, land management, state land master planning, community planning, conservation planning and review of public and private activities across the state. There are a number of ways to access the information, depending on your needs.

Some of the tools are appropriate for general planning and assessment purposes only and should not be used for screening or reviewing a proposed land development or land management project for potential impacts to endangered resources. That kind of review must often be done by the department. Please contact the ER Review Program if you need information about whether a proposed project may impact rare species or other sensitive resources.
