Laboratory testing

The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires public water systems to test water supplies for bacteriological agents and chemical contaminants to protect the health of their consumers. The frequency and extent of testing is dependent on the population the system serves. Private well owners are also encouraged to test their water supply if its odor, appearance or taste changes in any way, or on an annual basis to ensure good health.
