The DNR Dam Safety program’s mapping application allows the public access to the Wisconsin Dams database.
Once you find the dam of interest and you are zoomed in to at least 1:24,000, choose the identify button in the tool bar and click on the "yellow dot" which signifies the dam. Information on this dam is now shown in the left sidebar entitled "Identify Results." If you scroll down on this information, you will find a heading for "Representative Photo" which may have a link to the right entitled "more data." If there is a link and you click on this link, the photo of the dam will appear.
The DNR Floodplain Management program’s mapping application allows the public access to the Wisconsin Floodplain Analysis database. Floodplain Insurance Studies and Engineering Input Models are available for download through the ’Identify Results’ information of the flood study and bridge location lines and points. Note: FEMA maps displayed on this website are not official maps and should not be used for zoning purposes.
Once you find the floodplain of interest, and you are zoomed in to at least 1:150,000, choose the identify button in the tool bar and click on the "red dot" which signifies the dam. Information on this floodplain is now shown in the left sidebar entitled "Identify Results."
Go to FEMA’s Map Service Center to download the official, effective Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) or Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs) where available.
Geographic Information Systems
Below is a shapefile of Wisconsin dams that can be used in ArcGIS. The shapefile contains points which represent the locations for all dams recorded in the dam safety database. The shapefile is updated occasionally, so make sure check back for the most up to date version.
Click on the link to download a zipped version of the shapefile, metadata and associated files. It is recommended that you save this zip file to your hard drive, and open it from there.
