Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program Property Development and Local Assistance
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) provides funding for WDNR property development and grants to local units of government (local assistance) to acquire and develop property for nature-based outdoor recreation purposes.
Funding for WDNR property development is used for:
- property development on DNR land such as;
- toilets and toilet/shower buildings (over $11 million)
- campsite additions and improvements (over $10 million)
- trail development (over $8 million)
- park entrance and visitor stations (over $ 7 million)
- property development on conservation easements adjacent to DNR land; and
- grants to friends groups and non-profit conservation organizations for property development activities on DNR land.
Funding for local assistance may be used for:
- grants for acquisition of urban green space;
- grants for acquisition and development of local parks;
- grants for acquisition of property development rights; and
- grants for acquisition and development of urban rivers.
