  • Foster joint land protection efforts between the DNR, nonprofit organizations and local governments.
  • Explore ways to increase citizen involvement in the preservation and management of the state's natural resources through the Stewardship Program.
  • Improve administration of Stewardship grant programs.
  • Improve communication between the DNR, nonprofits and local governments; share ideas and explore common problems/joint solutions; develop strategies for working more closely together in order to support and complement each other's activities.
  • The Council is made up of 12-20 members [PDF 38KB] appointed by the Secretary of the DNR. At least five members represent organizations that own and manage land for conservation purposes and have direct experience with the Stewardship Program, and five members represent local governments.
