Demonstration of Intermitttent On/Off Aeration at a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant for Denitrification and Energy Savings

Final Report

Intermittent On/Off Aeration

Denitrification Efficiency of Intermittent On/Off Aeration

The results of NO3- monitoring at the end of anoxic stage and at the effluent are shown in Figures 3.4 and 3.5. Results indicated that NO3- concentration can be lowered down to 4.2 mg-N/L in the effluent, otherwise 25 mg-N/L without intermittent aeration, by shutting off the aerators for 6 hours every day. However a completely denitrification was not able to be achieved at the end of anoxic stage by even shutting off the aerators for 8 hours since October 9, 1997.
