Watershed Management

Scenery in the Fall

Scenery in the Fall.

A watershed includes the land that drains from surrounding ridge tops to a common point such as a lake or stream to their confluence with a neighboring watershed. All lands and waterways can be found in one watershed or another.

The watershed program uses a "watershed approach", or a systems approach, whenever possible to address problems or to restore or protect resources. In 2008 the watershed program updated strategic goals for future work. Watershed Program Success Stories are available at right (see 'Water Successes').

Top stories in the program include the 2008 Impaired Waters List updates, including restoration of several key waters in the state.
