Wisconsin Floodplain Management Program - Study Submittal Format

The DNR has had the responsibility for about 35 years to approve the engineering data used to generate floodplain maps. Under NR 116.07, these maps will be adopted by reference into local floodplain zoning ordinances.

Because contractors are required to submit similar data for review to both the DNR and FEMA, the DNR Floodplain Management program created a new Study Submittal Format to satisfy both requests at the same time.

Users familiar with the former checklist will notice the following changes:

  • Conversion of the format into Access, which contains a series of forms with check boxes, text boxes, pull down lists, etc.
  • Reorganization of the checklist into a format that follows FEMA's TSDN (Technical Support Data Notebook) structure
  • Zipped TSDN directory structure providing a folder for all files submitted digitally
  • Pre-formatted reports for the TSDN cover and index pages for each section
  • 'Key to Cross-Section / Transect Labeling' template spreadsheets
  • Inclusion of hyperlinks to FEMA's MT-2 forms for FIS revisions (zip file includes forms)
  • Inclusion of sections for WDNR reviewer use only

The new submittal format is effective immediately, so if you are in the process of submitting a floodplain study for WDNR/FEMA review in the near future, we encourage you to download the ´zip´ file below and start to become familiar with this format.

Once you click on the link provided below, make sure you choose to Save this file to disk and do not attempt to open the file directly. After saving the zip file to your local PC or disk, open it with a decompression software and export the files to a new folder. A Microsoft Word file titled: "Directions.doc", is included with step-by-step instructions on how to use this Study Submittal Format.
