Eurasian Water Milfoil-Northern Water Milfoil Hybrid

Source: Wisconsin DNR Aquatic Invasive Species program

Date: Last Updated 5/09

This data represents waterbodies where Eurasian Water Milfoil-Northern Water Milfoil (EWM-NWM) hybrids have been found. This aquatic invasive plant may be growing in other waterbodies, but its presence has not been confirmed outside of the waters listed here. Eurasian Water Milfoil and hybrid monitoring is conducted on Wisconsin's lakes and streams in the summer months, with the presence lists compiled in the fall.

Like pure Eurasian Water Milfoil, EWM-NWM hybrids grow very quickly and can choke waterways, hampering boat access, fish passage, and water supply intakes. The plants fragment easily, and fragments attached to watercraft can take root in uninfested lakes. Pure Northern Water Milfoil is a species that is native to Wisconsin. Though it is a common plant in lakes, is not considered invasive.
