Jefferson Dam Fish Passage Project
The Jefferson Dam fish passage will provide game and non-game fish species upstream and downstream navigation in the Rock River. The fish passage will improve movement, reproduction and recruitment of fish species such as sauger and walleye by providing uninterrupted river access from the Indianford dam at Lake Koshkonong to the lower Watertown dam. Construction of the fish passage began on August 1, 2005 and will be completed by mid-September 2005. Primary department staff involved in this project include: Jim Congdon - Upper Rock River Basin Leader, Laura Stremick-Thompson-Upper Rock River Fisheries Biologist, Sue Josheff – SCR Dam Safety Engineer, Don Bush - East Fisheries Team Supervisor, Gale Holloway and Mike Anderson-Facilities and Lands Engineers, and Paul Cunningham-Systems Ecologist. In addition, the City of Jefferson (owner of the Jefferson Dam), Rock River Coalition, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the River Alliance have all been active partners in the project.
