Great Lakes Soil Erosion and Sediment Control
The Great Lakes Commission’s Basin Program for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control is funded over $248,000 in grant funds for Wisconsin-based projects. Linda Talbot, DNR coordinator for these grants, is working with Nancy Larson (also DNR) and the Lake Superior Partnership Team, which developed the project for planning for Marengo River. Dennis Pratt assisted with site selection for the Bark River project.
Four projects will be funded through this grant program:
- University of Wisconsin-Madison for “Reducing Gully Erosion and Peak Flows in the Bark River” in Bayfield County. Requested $124,919; match $42,000; total $166,919
- Milwaukee County Parks for “The Slope Stabilization of Two Ravines in Lake Park, Milwaukee, WI”. Requested $24,450; match $25,650; total $50,000
- City of Milwaukee for “City of Milwaukee Erosion Control Information and Training Program” Requested $50,000; match $30,056; total $80,056
- Ashland Bayfield, Douglas, Iron County Land & Water Conservation Department for “A Watershed Management Strategy to Reduce Sedimentation and Erosion in the Marengo River”. Requested $49,450; match $17,377; total $66,827.
