Source: 1977, Surface Water Resources of Marathon County

Wausau Dam, T29N, R7E, Section 26 Surface Acres = 284.1, Maximum Depth = 28 feet, Secchi Disk = 3 feet A soft water drainage lake (impoundment) having slightly acid, medium brown water of low transparency. The immediate shoreline (98 percent) is predominantly upland of mixed hardwood, conifer, and cleared land with the remaining shoreline marsh wetland. The littoral materials are composed of sand (60 percent), rubble (20 percent), gravel (10 percent), and muck (10 percent). Aquatic vegetation grows in moderate quantities. Fish inhabiting this flowage include northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill, black crappie, pumpkinseed, and black-bullhead. Waterfowl, especially mallards, use this flowage as a resting site during their fall migration. Two public boat landings with parking are available. The water control structure, owned by the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, is used to generate electric power and maintains a head of 27 feet. Shoreline developments include 20 dwellings, 2 city parks, and 2 picnic sites. Inlet streams include Jim Moore Creek and the Wisconsin River.
