West Honey Island Flowage, T26N, R5E, Section 28 Surface Acres = 123.0, Maximum Depth = 8 feet, Secchi Disk = 4 feet A very soft water drained lake (impoundment) having slightly acid, medium brown water of low transparency. The entire shoreline is shrub and marsh wetland. The littoral materials are composed of muck (60 percent), sand (20 percent), and detritus (20 percent). Submergent aquatic vegetation grows in moderate quantities, while the growth of emergent types is dense. Information on the fishery resource is lacking, however, northern pike may be present. An unimproved public boat landing with parking has been provided. A water control structure having a head of 4 feet maintains the water level. This impoundment is part of a complex of flowages managed by the Department of Natural Resources for waterfowl within the George Mead Wildlife Area. The entire shoreline is owned by the Department of Natural Resources.

Where the scale is 1-5 1= Beautiful, could not be any nicer; 2= Very minor aesthetic problems - excellent for swimming, boating, enjoyment; 3= Swimming and aesthetic enjoyment slightly impaired because of algae levels; 4= Desire to swim and level of enjoyment of the lake substantially reduced because of algae (would not swim, but boating ok); 5= Swimming and aesthetic enjoyment of the lake nearly impossible because of algae level.
Trophic state is another indicator of water quality.
