Mead WLA Pool 10, T26N, R5E, Section 33 Surface Acres = 45.0, Maximum Depth = 3 feet, Secchi Disk = greater than 3 ft A very soft water drained lake (impoundment) having slightly acid, light brown water of low transparency. The immediate shoreline (80 percent) is predominantly upland hardwood with the remainder being marsh wetland. The entire littoral area is muck. Information on the fishery resource is lacking. Emergent vegetation is dense over 70 percent of the basin. A water control structure of 3 head feet maintains the water level. The outlet flows to West Honey Island Flowage. This impoundment is part of a complex of flowages managed by the Department of Natural Resources for waterfowl within the George Mead Wildlife Area. The entire shoreline is in public ownership, which provides wilderness type public access.

Total Phosphorus in mg/l = for samples compared to 0.06 mg/l for 72 samples in the basin.
Public Perception of water conditions = for samples compared to 2 for 204 samples in the basin.
Where the scale is 1-5 1= Beautiful, could not be any nicer; 2= Very minor aesthetic problems - excellent for swimming, boating, enjoyment; 3= Swimming and aesthetic enjoyment slightly impaired because of algae levels; 4= Desire to swim and level of enjoyment of the lake substantially reduced because of algae (would not swim, but boating ok); 5= Swimming and aesthetic enjoyment of the lake nearly impossible because of algae level.
Trophic state is another indicator of water quality.
