This publication was produced by Education Subcommittee of the Wisconsin Groundwater Coordinating Council (GCC). Wisconsin Groundwater Coordinating Council Report to the Legislature - August 2006 The Groundwater Coordinating Council is required by s. 15.347, Wis. Stats., to prepare a report which "summarizes the operations and activities of the council..., describes the state of the groundwater resource and its management and sets forth the recommendations of the council. The annual report shall include a description of the current groundwater quality of the state, an assessment of groundwater management programs, information on the implementation of ch. 160, Wis. Stats., and a list and description of current and anticipated groundwater problems." This report is due each August. This report fulfills this requirement for fiscal year 2006 (FY 06). The activities of the Groundwater Coordinating Council and its subcommittees, including coordination of groundwater monitoring and research programs, are described in the chapter titled Groundwater Coordination. The chapter Summary of Agency Groundwater Activities describes groundwater management programs and implementation of ch. 160, Wis. Stats., by the individual state agencies in FY 04. Condition of the Groundwater Resource provides an assessment of Wisconsin's groundwater quality and quantity, as well as current and anticipated groundwater problems. The Benefits from Monitoring and Research Projects chapter describes how research and monitoring findings are used to better manage groundwater resources in Wisconsin.
