WATER STORAGE SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

Each water system has its own unique requirements for water storage. These depend on factors such as the following:

  • System pressure
  • Normal water usage
  • Low and peak demand
  • Fire protection requirements

 

Types of water storage facilities are:

 

Water storage facilities store water during low demand periods for distribution during high demand periods. Some general operation and maintenance principles for all storage tanks include the following:

  • Identify and repair storage tank leaks as soon as possible
  • Inspect the tank for corrosion
  • Use anti-corrosion (cathodic protection) devices where necessary
  • Drain and inspect tanks as required every five years

 

Scheduled maintenance should be undertaken when it will least inconvenience customers. If this is not possible, give adequate notification in advance.
