Ultraviolet Disinfection (UV)

Ultraviolet disinfection is a method whereby water is passed through a device that exposes it to ultraviolet light.

UV effectively disinfects water containing chlorine-resistant microorganisms, such as protozoa. The drawbacks of UV disinfection include the following:

  • No residual disinfection remains in the system
  • Its effectiveness depends on the clarity of the water
  • A limited amount of water can be treated at one time
