Gravel Packing

Gravel packed wells utilize gravel to prevent sand infiltration and are used in:

  • Sand and gravel formations
  • Water bearing rock formations

For a gravel packed well, a larger bore hole is drilled and a screen is installed on the casing. Small stone or gravel is installed around the screen and casing. This gravel allows water to freely enter the well during pumping and prevents the softer sand in the formation from entering the well.
