Well Casing In both drilling methods, steel casing is installed to keep the well from caving in. The casing lengths are welded or coupled together to form a continuous casing from the surface to either the sand and gravel formation or the water-bearing rock formation from which the water is to be obtained. This casing not only serves to keep the well from caving in, but also to prevent surface water and shallow groundwater from contaminating the well. |
