PUMPS

The two basic types of well pumps are:

The vertical turbine pump has a motor above ground connected by a shaft to the pump below. The pump itself has impellers, which spin in bowl-assemblies to push the water to the surface through a well column.

The submersible pump has the motor and pump assembly below-ground (at the bottom of the well column). This arrangement precludes the need for shafts to turn the impellers.
