Well Drilled under a lake

Groundwater Under the Influence of Surface Water

Groundwater under the influence of surface water is water taken from an aquifer that may be intermixed with surface water.

  • This situation may occur when a well is placed next to a lake or river.
  • As the well is pumped, surface water can enter the groundwater aquifer,
  • This situation is susceptible to the same types of contaminants as surface water.

Groundwater under the influence of surface water is covered by the same regulations as surface water systems.
