Consumer Confidence Report (CCR)

  • Is a report that community water systems must provide or make available to their customers annually
  • Is designed to inform the customers of the quality of the water they are drinking. It must include information on the following:
    • The water source
    • Steps the system may be taking to protect the source water
    • The name and phone number of the person customers may contact if they have questions about the report
    • The time, date, and location of any meetings held on a periodic basis that customers may attend
    • Definitions of the terms and abbreviations used in the report
    • The constituents detected in the water and the level found
    • Information on the health effects of constituents detected in the water and where additional information is available
    • Any MCL and monitoring violations
The report must be made available to every customer of the water system before July 1st of each year, and must also be available in alternative languages if a significant number of the customers are non-English speaking.

Once the CCR has been completed and made available to the customers, the water system is required to do the following:

  • Complete a CCR Certification form detailing the efforts made to make the report available to the customers
  • Send the signed form and a copy of the CCR to the WDNR and the Health Department.

The report can be an important public relations tool in showing customers the efforts made by the water supplier to provide safe water.
