Water Quality Report and Impaired Waters List

Every two years, Wisconsin prepares its Water Quality Report to Congress. The next report will be published in spring 2012, providing a summary of overall water condition of waters statewide, along with updates to the List of Impaired Waters.

The 2010 Water Quality Report

The 2010 Water Quality Report, available with the 2010 impaired waters list, updates progress made on meeting designated uses: Fish and Aquatic Life, Fish Consumption, Recreation, and Public Health and Welfare for the state's over 84,000 river miles, 15,000 lakes, and over 1 million acres of wetlands. The result is a snapshot of water condition, measured against expectations derived for each of the four key designations listed above. In addition, the 2010 report reflects a more detailed analysis of 25 of the state's 330 watersheds, as well as specific monitoring of targeted waters throughout the state. This report highlights the state's most degraded waters as they constitute the state's impaired waters as described in the Clean Water Act, Section 303(d).

The 2010 Impaired Waters List

The 2010 Draft Impaired Waters List is now available. There was a 45-day comment period from December 1, 2009 to January 15, 2010. Responses to comments are included as part of the submittal package to USEPA. View the proposed Year 2010 changes to the Impaired Waters List.
