Mazomanie Unit – Lower Wisconsin State Riverway is an 3,550 acre property located in Dane County. The property consists of bottomland hardwood forest, wetlands, prairies, savanna, sloughs and flowage. Find it 2 miles North of Mazomanie on County Hwy Y and 3 miles south of Sauk City on Hwy 78. Scattered parcels located along South shore of Wisconsin River between Mazomanie and Sauk City.

History of Property

The Lower Wisconsin State Riverway was created in 1989 to protect and preserve the scenic beauty and natural character of the river valley, to manage the resources of the area for the long term benefit of the citizens of the state, and to provide a quality public recreational area in a manner consistent with the resource and aesthetic protection goals and objectives. The Wisconsin River flows unimpeded by any man-made structures for 92.3 miles from the dam at Prairie Du Sac downstream to its mouth at the Mississippi River. The Lower Wisconsin State Riverway boundary contains 79,275 acres, of which over 44,000 are in state ownership, divided into 26 management units. The Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board, [Exit DNR] a unique and separate State agency, is responsible for the scenic protection of the river valley.

Over 285 bird and 45 mammal species are abundant within the LWSR.
