Management

Management Objective

The Maine WA is managed to provide opportunities for public hunting, trapping and other outdoor recreation while protecting the qualities of the unique native communities and associated species found on the property. Current management objectives include maintaining and protecting the open tamarack bog and black-spruce fringe through water level maintenance. The aspen and oak cover types are maintained where currently found along the ridges and opportunities to regenerate both types are pursued through timber management. Where feasible, populations of invasive species are controlled or eliminated by cutting, pulling, burning, herbicide treatment and/or bio-control.
