Chief River Wildlife Area is a 1,183 acre property located in north central Sawyer County. Find it from Hayward by taking Hwy. B 12 miles east to Hwy A, go north 2 miles to Chief River Road, take this 1½ miles to center of property. The habitat is comprised of aspen, upland conifer, lowland conifer, and hardwoods.










Management

Management Objective

The property was purchased in the late 1940’s primarily because of its importance as a major deer yarding area. It is now managed for all age northern forest and wildlife benefits. The property provides public hunting opportunities and boat access to the Chief River and Mud-Callahan Lake.
