Big Springs Fishery Area
Big Springs Fishery Area is a 440 acre property with an additional 4 miles of fish management easments. The property consists of oak forest, abandoned fields, wetlands, cold water stream, large freshwater springs, and upland goat prairies. Find Big Springs Fishery Area 2 miles west of Highland on Hwy Q to Big Springs Road then north 1 mile. History of ManagementBig Springs Fishery Area was purchased because of large 2,000 gpm elevated spring head and regionally unique Class I Brook Trout population. Multiple intensive Trout habitat projects have been completed. More fish habitat projects are planned. Prairie and wetland development projects in the bottom lands. The property is known to have turkeys, deer, squirrels, rabbits, ruffed grouse, and snakes. Class I Brook and Brown trout populations are present.
