Black Earth Processing Center Photos

Deer heads that are collected at registration stations for CWD testing are shipped to a processing center in Black Earth. At the Black Earth Processing Center, data collected at registration stations are entered into a database and retropharyngeal lymph nodes are removed from deer heads and sent to the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, where they are tested for the presence of the CWD prion. The obex, a portion of the deer’s brain stem, is also removed from deer heads at the processing center for research purposes.
