Learn To Hunt Deer Programs at Sandhill

Since 1990, Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center has offered Learn to Hunt Deer programs where youth and beginner adults receive training on hunting deer. About 200 youth and beginner adults complete Hunter Safety training and attend a special workshop through the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center. Fifty to sixty deer are harvested annually by these novice hunters.

Youth Learn to Hunt Program

Youth Learn to Hunt Deer Workshops are one-day and run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please bring your own lunch.

Youth Learn to Deer Hunt Program Application Information:

  • Download the Learn To Hunt Deer Application (PDF, 24KB).
  • Complete form and mail it to the address on the application.
  • Youth must be less than 16 years old on the date of the hunt.
  • Do not send money with your application. We will notify you if you're selected, then at that time, you should send in your registration fee.
  • Most applicants apply for the Saturday workshop. For a better chance at getting a spot, select a weekday workshop.
  • Important: If an applicant as previously participated in any Learn to Hunt Deer Program, they are not eligible to participate in any other Learn to Hunt Deer Programs in the State (such as the one held at Buckhorn State Park).
  • All participants must be enrolled in or have completed a Hunter Education course.

Beginner Adult Learn to Hunt Program

Beginner Adult Learn to Hunt Deer Workshops are one-day and run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please bring your own lunch. This workhop is for persons ages 16 and over. Applicants must sign an affidavit indicating they have never hunted deer with a gun before.

Beginner Adult Learn to Deer Hunt Program Application Information:

  • Complete form and mail it to the address on the application.
  • Do not send money with your application. We will notify you if you're selected, then at that time, you should send in your registration fee.
  • Once selected you will be assigned a compartment to hunt in and will be notified of that compartment location at your workshop.
  • All participants must be enrolled in or have completed a Hunter Education course.
