Public Hunting Grounds Stocked with Pheasants

In an effort to reduce costs, the Department is no longer publishing the Special Pheasant Hunting Regulations. Regulations related to pheasant hunting can be found within the Small Game Hunting Regulations. This web page highlights stocking and State property information. Before hunting pheasants on public hunting grounds, be sure to check the regulations for special requirements that apply including 2:00 pm Closure Areas and Hen-Rooster Hunting Areas. A Pheasant Stamp is required statewide.

Depending on production levels, pheasants are released once prior to the pheasant hunting season and then twice a week for the first 2-3 weeks of the season. After that birds are released once a week until early December (except during the 9-day gun deer season). The number of birds released at a time depends on the property size and weather conditions.
