It is illegal to harvest a cub or a sow with cubs. How do I tell if the bear is a cub?

An adult bear is defined as a bear 42 inches or greater in length, as measured in a straight line from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. Therefore, a bear less than 42 inches in length would be considered a cub. When in doubt, don’t shoot.
