Elk in Wisconsin Photo GalleryWisconsin Elk Corral TrapAn elk corral trap was constructed so DNR biologists could recapture some of the 35 elk that were first released in Wisconsin in 1995. The biologists placed or replaced radio collars on these animals so future research can be conducted. The radio collars are used to locate that elk along with others, to track their movements, and to get an understanding of the type of habitat the elk are using. Special thanks to the following companies that supplied materials and time to build the trap: Dave Bahl, Jeff Mueller and staff of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Safari Club International, and Weldall Manufacturing for the construction of the metal frames of the corral; Jim, Eric, Zack, and Dave from Quantum Inland Sails for the sewing of materials; and Steve and Judy Ristow of Schneider Excavating for the donation of the black fabric.
