Friends of Whitefish Dunes Shirts, Sweatshirts and Cover-ups

Long-sleeved shirtThe sales of T-shirts and sweatshirts began in 1990 as a fundraising project under the auspices of the Friends of Whitefish Dunes State Park. The intent was to raise money for park projects not normally funded by the Department of Natural Resources. The first design was selected from the “standard” designs offered by the Door County Stencil Company with the addition of a park logo.

Sales of these shirts in that first year were so successful that the friends organization decided to continue shirt sales with annual designs, appropriately exclusive, depicting indigenous plant species, particularly those on the endangered list. In later years, birds, mushrooms, butterflies and other sights that an observant walker of the park paths might see were included. There is a new shirt design each year. Early each year since 1990, friends and park personnel have chosen a design for the coming year to be executed by Carol Higgins, owner of Door County Stencil Co.
