Aldo Leopold Legacy Trail System
Newton Blackmour State Trail
Nine miles of this new trail in northeast Wisconsin are open. When completed, this trail on a former rail corridor will run for 23 miles in Outagamie County. The trail name is derived from the four communities the trail passes through; New London, Shiocton, Black Creek, and Seymour.
The trail is open between Black Creek and Seymour. In Seymour, the Newton Blackmour State Trail connects to the Duck Creek Trail. The Duck Creek trail travels east towards Green Bay for 5 miles. The 14-mile segment from New London to Black Creek is closed to all use while it is under development.
Activities
The Newton Blackmour State Trail may bring a number of different users to the trail at the same time. It is important to use good trail etiquette to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all trail users. ATVs and other motorized vehicles are not allowed on the trail.

Walking & Bicycling
The level grade and smooth surface make this trail suitable for bicyclists, walkers and joggers. The 14 miles from New London to Black Creek is closed to all use until the trail is developed on this segment.
Pet owners, please be sure to have your pet on a leash, 8 feet or shorter, at all times. You must pick up after your pet.
The fairly level grade and smooth surface make most of this trail accessible to wheelchair users and others with mobility impairments.
Horseback Riding
Horses are permitted on the open segments of the trail. To avoid damage to the trail, horses should stay off the trail in the spring until the trail is dry, usually until around May 15. Riders are also asked to limit their use of the trail immediately following a heavy rainfall to reduce the amount of damage to the trail. Riders must pick up after their horse.
Winter Activities
Snowmobiles are permitted on the open segments of the trail. Operators must follow all Wisconsin snowmobile laws, including traveling no more than 15 miles per hour within any of the village limits. The Newton Blackmour State Trail also connects to numerous miles of Outagamie County snowmobile trails. In Seymour the Newton Blackmour State Trail connects to the Duck Creek Trail. Snowmobiles are not allowed on the Duck Creek Trail.
The trail is open to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, however, the trail is not groomed, and skiers and snowshoers must share the trail with snowmobiles.
