Lake Kegonsa State Park
Special Events

Several fun events are held each year at Lake Kegonsa State Park.

January and February

On the second Saturday in January and February from 6 to 9 p.m., the park staff and friends group host candlelight skiing. Join us for a beautiful winter evening of skiing along 2 miles of trails lit with hundreds of glowing luminaries.

When you are done skiing, warm up by the bonfire and cook out on the grills provided or enjoy drinks and baked goods sold by the Lake Kegonsa State Park Friends Group. There are no fees for these events, but a valid park admission sticker is required. Sorry, no pets or hikers are allowed on the ski trails. These events are contingent on weather and snow conditions.

Wisconsin State Parks Open House Day is the first Sunday of the first full weekend in June. This weekend is also free fishing weekend throughout the state. In 2006, open house day is Sunday, June 4. There is no admission fee charged to get into the park on this day, but camping fees will still be charged. A day full of activities is held at Lake Kegonsa State Park to celebrate Open House Day. Typically there is an interpretive hike, a fishing clinic and t-shirt printing. For more information, call the park office in May or June.

Summer

Several events are held each summer in the park. These events may include a "Universe In The Park" program presented by the UW Astronomy Department, a program about bats presented by the Bat Conservation of Wisconsin and many more. Typically one or two events per month are planned between May and September.

October

Every October, a Candlelight Hike is held on the White Oak Nature Trail. The 1.2-mile wooded trail is lit with hundreds of glowing luminaries and pumpkins. After you are done hiking the trail, enjoy the bonfire and grills provided for cooking. The Lake Kegonsa State Park Friends Group will sell baked goods and drinks. Sorry, no pets are allowed on the White Oak Nature Trail. This event is weather permitting.
