Blue Bikes at Capital SpringsThe Dasani Blue Bikes program is a national program which provides more than 280 Trek bicycles for public use on bike trails across the country. Dasani developed the program with the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy [exit DNR] to provide people an opportunity to get active, stay healthy, and enjoy the outdoors in their community.
The Blue Bikes program in Madison provide 20 new Trek bicycles for visitors to the Capital Springs Recreation Area including the Capital City Trail, Lake Farm County Park, and the Lussier Family Heritage Center [exit DNR]. With a $5 donation, a visitor may use one of the bikes for 24 hours. Bicyclists may use the bikes on the Capital City State Trail, which connects to other city bike trails in Madison [exit DNR] and Fitchburg [exit DNR], the Military Ridge State Trail, and the Badger State Trail. How to check out a bikeAnyone wishing to use a bike can register for a Blue Bikes card at the Lussier Family Heritage Center. You must have a photo ID or credit card available when checking out a bike. Blue Bike Registration Form [PDF 142KB] The Blue Bikes are housed in specially designed storage lockers at the campground in Lake Farm Park. Visitors have access to the bikes during park hours, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. To gain access to a bike, insert the card through the reader on one of the Blue Bike lockers, remove a bike and return it at the end of the ride.
