Ahnapee State Trail
From downtown Sturgeon Bay, this 46-mile, county-operated trail winds south along the beautiful Ahnapee and Kewaunee rivers to Algoma, Casco, Luxemburg and Kewaunee, passing by a mixture of evergreen glades, farmland, prairies and wooded areas teeming with wildlife and native wildflowers.

Near Sunset Road in Kewaunee County, the trail branches off in three directions, west to Luxemburg, northeast towards Algoma, and southeast towards the city of Kewaunee.
Trail Activities
The Ahnapee State Trail may bring a number of different users to the trail at the same time. It is important to use good trail etiquette to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all trail users.

Walking & Bicycling
The level grade and limestone surface make this trail suitable for bicyclists, walkers and joggers. Bikers do not need a trail pass while using the trail. Due to the possibility of hoof marks in the trail surface, wider-tire bicycles are recommended.
Pet owners, please be sure to have your pet on a leash, 8 feet or shorter, at all times. You must pick up after your pet.
Ice Age National Scenic Trail
The Ice Age Trail follows two sections of the Ahnapee State Trail corridor, for about 17 miles from downtown Sturgeon Bay to Algoma, and for another 10 miles from the city of Kewaunee through the C.D. Besadny Fish and Wildlife Area to County Highway A.
Horseback Riding
The Ahnapee State Trail corridor is open for horses from April 15 to November 15. Riders are asked to limit their use of the trail immediately following a heavy rainfall to reduce the amount of damage to the trail. Riders must pick up after their horse.
Winter Activities
Snowmobiles are permitted on the the trail. Operators must follow all Wisconsin snowmobile laws, including traveling no more than 15 miles per hour within any of the village limits. The Ahnapee State Trail also connects to numerous miles of Door and Kewaunee county snowmobile trails.
The trail is open to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, however, the trail is not groomed, and skiers and snowshoers must share the trail with snowmobiles. Skiers do not need a trail pass while using the trail.

How to Get There
Sturgeon Bay – The Sturgeon Bay trailhead and parking lot is just south of the city along Neenah Avenue. The trail continues north off the rail corridor along Neenah Avenue and other city streets, crossing State Highways 42/57, into the city of Sturgeon Bay. Forestville – There is parking at the Forestville Dam County Park adjacent to the Ahnapee State Trail.
Algoma – There are three parking areas available near Algoma, along County Highway M just north of the city, on Navarino Street in Algoma and at the Algoma trailhead.
Casco – Parking is available on County Highway C (Church Street) near the trail.
Sunset Road – Parking is available at Harold Reckelberg Park on Sunset Road in Casco Junction, at the junction where the trail forks to Luxemburg, Kewaunee, and Casco.
Luxemburg – The trail starts near County Highway AB and parking is available along city streets.
Kewaunee – There are two trailheads in Kewaunee. The southern trailhead begins at Beardsly Street near County Highway E. The northern trailhead is near the intersection of State Highway 42 (Main Street) and Hathaway Drive. Parking is available at several locations in Kewaunee.
