Potawatomi State Park
Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin

Potawatomi, on the shore of Sturgeon Bay just northwest of the city of Sturgeon Bay in Door County, has gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs.

Nature

The park's woods provide homes for birds, deer, porcupines, raccoons, and skunks. There is a naturalist program.

Camping

The two campgrounds have a total of 123 campsites, 40 of them with electricity. There's winter camping for hardy souls.

Potawatomi has a cabin for people with disabilities.

Trails

This 1,225-acre park offers trails for hiking (9 miles), mountain biking (8 miles), skiing (8.5 miles, groomed and tracked, some for skate skiing) and snowmobiling (8.3 miles). Bicycle rentals are available from the park store.

A small sledding hill is available near the campground shelter.

Water Recreation

Potawatomi is a base for boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, SCUBA diving, and water skiing on Green Bay. canoe, and kayak rentals are available from the park store.

How to Get There

From Chicago: Take Interstate Highway 94 north. In Milwaukee, exit onto Interstate Highway 43 and continue as directed below.

From Milwaukee: Take Interstate 43 or US Highway 41 north to Green Bay. (If you take Highway 41, take it to the north side of Green Bay and exit on Interstate 43 south.) On the northeast side of Green Bay, exit from Interstate 43 onto State Highway 57 north and continue as directed below.

From Green Bay: Take State Highway 57 north. Drive about 37 miles to County Highway PD. Turn north on Highway PD and go about 2.4 miles to the park entrance.
