Merrick State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Friday, June 27, 2008:

The Winona Bridge connecting Wisconsin and Minnesota is open to limited traffic. Passenger cars, pickups sport utility vehicles (SUVs), vans and emergency vehicles are allowed. Campers, motor homes and vehicles pulling trailers, including boat trailers, are not allowed.

Trails are in good condition. Lots of wildflowers can be seen from the prairie trails.

The Mississippi River is returning to normal. Fishing was slow during the high water.

The prairies are a rainbow of colors with orange, yellow, white, purple, blue and pink. Flowers blooming include purple coneflowers, spiderwort [exit DNR], cinquefoil, wood anemone, yarrow [exit DNR], butterfly weed [exit DNR], and hoary puccon [exit DNR].

Campgrounds: All campgrounds are open, but some sites are still wet and closed.

Vehicles must have a park sticker attached before parking in the park. The 2008 annual park stickers and trail passes are available for sale. Visitors may buy them through the self-registration box at the entrance to the park.
