"400" State Trail ConditionsConditions as of Wednesday, October 1, 2008: The "400" State Trail is open between Elroy and Strawbridge Rd. south of Wonewoc (about 8 miles) and from County Highway V south of La Valle to Reedsburg (about 5 miles). The rest of the trail, including the horse trail segment, remains closed due to bridge damage from the June 2008 Baraboo River flood. Over one mile of washed out trail surface has been replaced and debris has been removed from several bridges along the trail. Replacing the damaged bridge south of LaValle at County Highway V will be the first project of four needed bridge replacements and will begin this week.
Some leaves in the area are beginning to show fall color. Boy Scouts (Pack 83 from Hillsboro) rode the trail from Hillsboro to Elroy and back. They camped overnight in the Elroy campground. If you would like to adopt a section of the "400" State Trail, please see the Adopt-A-Trail web page for more information.
