Events

Valentine Candlelight Ski/Hike on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Celebrate Valentine’s Day early while enjoying the winter wonderland at night with family and friends. Ski or hike a two-mile trail lit by almost 200 tiki torches. Warm up afterwards by the fireplace. Refreshments will be available in the heated shelter building. Please, no pets, snowshoes or sleds. Vehicle sticker required. Supported by the Friends of Kohler-Andrae. Meet at the cross-country ski trail. Stop at office for directions. Event is weather permitting. 6-9 p.m.

Trails

All hiking and nature trails are open. There is very little snow coverage in the area.

Camping

Electric campsites 1-42 are open. About 10 campsites in this area will be plowed throughout the winter. The park water system (showers, flush toilets, and drinking fountains) is closed. The trailer dump station is closed for the season until April 19, 2012.

The office hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. If the office is closed, please read the sign in the window and follow the camping and vehicle self-registration instructions. If you need to access the office during the week, please call first to ensure that it will be open.

Firewood Notice: Due to the potential of carrying harmful tree pests and diseases, firewood from out of state or from more than 25 miles away is not allowed on Wisconsin State Park or Forest properties. Also, firewood that has been in the Wisconsin emerald ash borer quarantined area [PDF 102KB] is not allowed on properties outside of the quarantined area. Please buy firewood at or near the park or forest where you are going. Call the DNR toll-free Firewood Hotline, (877) 303-WOOD ((877) 303-9663) for information before packing for a trip.

Nature and Programs

Sanderling Nature Center is closed for the season. The nature center will reopen May 1, 2012. The nature center is typically open May through October from 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. School groups are welcome to contact the park office to schedule spring field trips.

Blue jays are daily visitors to the bird feeder. Coyotes can be heard at night.

Volunteers Needed

We are seeking volunteers to share pictures for the 2012 park newspaper. Qualifying pictures will be published with the photographer’s name. Pictures should feature the beach, sand dunes, and Lake Michigan. Wildlife pictures are also needed. Please contact Mary at the park office if you have pictures to share.

We are collecting old candles. Please bring wax donations to the park office.

The park is open daily from 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. year-round.

The Wisconsin Great Lakes Beach testing program has ended for the season. Historical results can be found at the beach testing web site [exit DNR].

The DNR call center (888) 936-7463 will be accepting phone orders for annual vehicle admission stickers and state trail passes. Customers can order from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. daily using MasterCard or Visa.
