Havenwoods State Forest ConditionsConditions as of Tuesday, January 31, 2012: The trails at Havenwoods are in perfect "spring" condition. In other words, icy in shaded areas and either slushy, frozen, or muddy in sunny places! Your best bet is to leave the trails behind and head off cross-country. If you are lucky, you will find yourself following the trail of a deer or coyote. Don't forget to look up. A rough-legged hawk has joined our resident red-tailed hawks. Stay long enough to catch a glimpse of the bluebirds! Their beautiful colors do a lot to brighten up the brown landscape. Winter NatureFest is on Saturday, February 18. The festival takes place snow or no snow. Most of our visitors are hoping for snow so they can try out snowshoes. Whatever the weather, you can ride in a horse-drawn wagon, take nature hikes, and learn about how people passed the time one hundred years ago. More InformationThe forest is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The building is open 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The building is closed on holidays. Volunteers are being sought for invasive species removal.
