Sandy Stories

Where did all of this sand come from? Students will discover how rock breaks down into sand and how it moved by glacier to Whitefish Dunes. They'll identify the types of rock in the sand by color. And, they will investigate swash lines and the effects of waves on sand. By using a magnet, students will discover another magical rock type found in the sand.

Special Instructions

The program is entirely an outdoor program. Dress in layers due to park being at least 10 -15 degrees cooler than inland temperatures. Windbreakers are also a suggestion. This program can be combined with Fossils and Dunes for a longer program.
