On hot summer days the prime attraction of Harrington Beach State Park is its mile of Lake Michigan shore. You can enjoy the refreshing lake breezes while strolling and sunbathing on the beach. Beautiful views of Lake Michigan can be enjoyed while picnicking in either the Point or South picnic areas. Harrington Beach is part of Wisconsin's Central Lake Michigan Coastal Landscape.

Camping

The park has a new campground, with 31 electric and 33 non-electric sites. There are five walk-in sites, a group campsite, and a kayak site.

It is closed for the season and will open on May 4, 2011, for first-come, first-served camping and May 13 for camping with reservations. You can reserve a site now for dates up to 11 months in advance. Call (888) WI PARKS ((888)947-2757, TTY (800) 274-7275) or reserve online.

Water Fun

The park also offers swimming, scuba diving, surf fishing, hiking, nature programs and trails, the Wisconsin Explorer program, and bicycling.

Swimming in Lake Michigan is a sure way to cool off in a hot day. Indeed, its waters can be dangerously cold, so use good judgment in deciding whether to swim and, if you do, how long to stay in the water.

Trails

Bicycling along the shuttle bus trail in the lower park is another, equally pleasant way to enjoy the woods and get healthy outdoor exercise. The shuttle bus trail also offers an excellent way for people with disabilities to see the woods and its wildlife.

Spring, summer, or fall a walk around Quarry Lake on the hiking trail that rings it is sure to be enjoyable. The deep, serene waters of this 26-acre lake are surrounded by limestone ledges out of which white cedars grow. Swimming and boating are not permitted in Quarry Lake, but anglers will enjoy fishing from the shore.

The coming of winter doesn’t mean the end of enjoyable activities at Harrington Beach State Park. A cross-country ski trail runs from the lower parking lot along the shuttle bus trail to the Hardwood Swamp trail and then back east along the service road. A snowmobile trail crosses the western end of the park. Even the park’s Lake Michigan beach remains an attraction in the wintertime, when a fantastic architecture of ice rims the shore.

How to Get There

Harrington Beach is about 35 miles north of Milwaukee and 21 miles south of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, via Interstate Highway 43. From I-43, take exit 107 (Belgium/Lake Church) and go east on County Highway D about 1 mile. The park entrance will be on your right. Geographic coordinates are 43° 29' 37.81" N, 87° 48' 8.13" W.
